NWPC-SF is dedicated to increasing women’s participation in the political process and creating a true women’s political power base to achieve equality for all women. Each campaign cycle, NWPC-SF administers a rigorous and unbiased process to endorse pro-choice female candidates who support our values and vision, regardless of their political affiliations.

NWPC-SF's board administers a thorough and unbiased endorsement process and we are confident that we are recommending the most qualified candidates to our full membership for approval.

Below we outlined frequently asked questions about our endorsement process:

Who sits on the Endorsement Committee?

The endorsement committee is comprised of NWPC-SF board members and general members. Any member in good standing is eligible to participate in the endorsement committee and is encouraged to do so.

How does NWPC-SF's Endorsement Committee identify and solicit candidates to endorse?

The Endorsement Committee obtains the list of qualified candidates from the SF Department of Elections, and contacts each female candidate to invite them to submit an endorsement questionnaire. Each candidate receives the same questionnaire, regardless of the office they are seeking or their party affiliation.

What process does the Endorsement Committee use to review candidates?

Representatives from the Endorsement Committee review each questionnaire, and select the candidate for an interview if her responses are in line with our values and mission. At the interview, candidates have the opportunity to share their platform, address the reasons they are seeking NWPC-SF’s endorsement and answer questions related to their values and qualifications.

How are endorsement recommendations made?

After the Endorsement Committee meets with each candidate they confidentially discuss their recommendations.  The final endorsement committee decisions are made by a majority vote of the women who participated in each interview. The NWPC-SF board respects the recommendations of the committee and support the slate which is released for to the full membership for approval.

Who is eligible to vote on endorsements?

All members in good standing may to vote on the Endorsement Committee recommendations at the meeting of the full membership of NWPC. The recommendations of the Endorsement Committee can be confirmed or overturned by a 50% +1 vote of the general membership. NWPC-SF values full membership participation in the endorsements and we strive to continue providing a transparent and fair decision making process. We welcome recommendations and feedback on the endorsements process.
